FOUR WAYS TO START
What are you working on?
A song can be a backing track, a close listen or a few bars on repeat. Choose the mode that fits today’s practice.
KARAOKE
Give your voice some room.
Take the lead vocal out and sing with the band. Keep a little vocal in the mix when you need a guide, and move the key to a range that feels comfortable.
Keep the vocals off, or bring a little back to help you sing along.

HOW IT WORKS
Pick a song. Start practicing.
Use Woodshed to hear a part more clearly, make a backing track or work through a tricky section.
01
Open a song
Paste a YouTube link, open an audio file, or choose a song from your library.
02
Choose what you hear
Mute the vocals or an instrument to play along. Solo a part if you want to learn it by ear.
03
Practice at your pace
Repeat a section and slow it down without changing the key. Save your settings so you can pick up where you left off.
YOUTUBE OR YOUR OWN RECORDING
Start with the music you have.
YOUTUBE
Paste a link. Keep the video here.
Open the video in the Studio and choose a mode. For a new analysis, allow temporary capture of this tab’s audio and let the song play through.
Play & capture→Stop sharing→Analyze locally
Once captured, Woodshed stops sharing before analysis begins. Your saved mix plays without another capture.
AUDIO FILES
Bring your recording to practice.
Open a file from your computer or drop it into the library. Woodshed reads the audio directly, so there is no sharing dialog and no need to play through it first.
Open a file→Analyze locally→Practice
Use your recordings or audio you have permission to process. A clean recording gives the separation more to work with.
MAKE THE SONG FIT YOUR PRACTICE
Small changes. Better rehearsals.
You don’t always need another song. Sometimes you need the same song a little slower, a little lower, or starting at the right bar.
0.5×0.75×1×
Give yourself time to hear it.
Slow down a fast run without changing its key. Bring the speed back up as the notes start to feel familiar.
−−2+semitones
Find a key that feels right.
Move the song up or down without changing the tempo. Useful for your vocal range or a different instrument tuning.

AB
Keep the parts you come back to.
Name your sections and jump straight to them. Set a count-in so each repeat gives you a moment to get ready.
DmGCAm
CHORDS
Follow the changes.
Open the chord view to follow the harmony while you play. The detected chords give you a starting point for working out the song by ear.
LYRICS
Keep the words nearby.
Look up lyrics or use local recognition, then follow them during playback. Adjust their timing when they need a little help lining up with the song.
A FEW IDEAS FOR YOUR NEXT SESSION
Learning a bass line? Solo the bass, slow the verse down and listen for where each note lands.
Working on a vocal? Start with a vocal guide, find your key, then take the guide out.
Rehearsing with a student? Save the hard passage as a section and build the speed up together.
PICK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF
Less setting up. More playing.
Your songs, mixes and sections stay in your local library. Come back to a saved analysis, choose your mode and carry on practicing.
Save a song’s Studio link as a bookmark. You can also import and export practice settings to keep your sections and adjustments handy.
Woodshed processes audio in your browser. Connect the extension to use your saved songs and settings here too.
For new YouTube songs, allow temporary tab audio capture. Sharing stops as soon as the audio is captured. Saved mixes open without capturing again. Audio processing needs a desktop browser with WebGPU and may take a few minutes.
How capture works, what gets saved and what to expect from the audio.
Do I need an account or the extension?
No account is needed to use the web Studio, and it can process songs without the Chrome extension. The extension is another way to use Woodshed directly on YouTube.
What happens when I open a YouTube link?
The video opens in the Studio. Choose a mode. For a new analysis, Chrome asks you to share this tab with its audio. Woodshed captures the whole song at normal playback speed, stops sharing, then processes the audio. You only need to capture again if you want a new recording.
Does Woodshed use my microphone or record my screen?
The Studio uses the digital audio from the tab you select. It does not request your microphone or read or record video frames. Chrome’s sharing dialog includes the tab’s picture because that is how its tab capture permission works.
Can I practice with my own audio files?
Yes. Open an audio file from your library page, or drop it into Woodshed. It is decoded and processed on your computer. Local files do not need tab sharing.
Which browsers can run the analysis?
Use a desktop browser with WebGPU. Chrome and Edge support the tab audio capture flow. The first analysis also needs to load the models, and processing time depends on your computer and the length of the song. Whole song analysis currently supports songs up to 8 minutes.
Will instrument separation sound perfect?
Separation estimates the instruments from a finished recording. Some sounds can leak between tracks or leave artifacts, especially in dense mixes and live recordings. A clean source helps. Leave Faster analysis off when you want the standard quality.
Where is my library saved?
It stays in this browser on this computer. When the extension connection is available, the Studio uses that extension’s library in the same Chrome profile. Otherwise, it keeps its own browser library. This is not an account or a sync service across devices. Clearing the relevant browser or extension data can remove saved songs.
What can I export?
You can export and import a YouTube song’s practice settings and saved sections. These files do not include the song’s audio or separated tracks. For your own audio files, Woodshed also offers WAV export of your mix.
